Bottling Kombucha Tea In Mason Jars

Question of the week:   Bottling Kombucha Tea In Mason Jars.  In this video we are going to answer a question, can I bottle my Kombucha tea in a mason jar?

Yes, that’s right.  Here at getkombucha.com I not only talk about basic brewing recipes but I love this stuff so much (ahem and talking and making kombucha so much), that we are actually dedicating a post and video to talk about bottling kombucha tea in mason jars.

Can you Bottle Kombucha Tea In Mason Jars?

Sure, but is it the best container to use for bottling?

I don’t think so and here’s why.

First before I start bashing bottling in those jars, let me say I think those jars are freaking awesome!   They’re just cool.   They make you want to consume something and they’re thick glass and they’re just, I don’t know, there’s just something about mason jars that make me feel like I should grow a beard and just hang out in the woods, so I use mason jars for other things.

I use these bottling jars, not the lid, but I use the mason jar itself to serve Kombucha tea in, right and there’s a difference, so READ ENTIRE POST

Storing Kombucha Tea or How To Store Kombucha Mushroom Tea

Storing Kombucha – So after you go to brew your Kombucha tea, you can do 2 things, if you’re using a continuous brewing system and it’s just out, you could always just draw from the tap and enjoy day to day.

The pro of this is it is crazy easy… Ron Popeil kombucha storage and the osmondsreference coming… Just Set It And Forget It.

The issue you may run into though is that over time it will continue to ferment and if you are not adding fresh sweet tea to your brewer, it will become more and more vinegary tasting.

Now I like a strong kombucha with a bite, but if you don’t then this might not be the best option for you.  But just a heads up, in general, the more you ferment your tea the more kombucha benefits there will be.

Hey that rhymes!

Bottling Kombucha Tip #3:  How To (safely) Get Fizzy Kombucha Teabottling kombucha at home glass bottles

When you go to bottle your Kombucha tea, here's actually a safety precaution, a lot of people say, Dave I go to bottle my Kombucha tea and there's no fizz. This fizz can take place during the aerobic stage of fermentation and what do I mean by that?

Well when you brew your Kombucha, the first stage is aerobic, meaning like it needs air, so we cover our Kombucha tea, not to cover it to seal it, but to really just ensure that things like fruit flies and debris and stuff like that don't go inside, so something as simple as a paper towel, with our kits we can be a little nicer option, but it's really achieves the same thing, but we want it to be breathable and during that stage, you could have, depending on the relationship between the yeast and the bacteria, you could have a little bit of carbonation.

However the true carbonation really kicks in when you go to bottle it, why?

Well when the yeast continues during that anaerobic stage of fermentation, so no air, the READ ENTIRE POST
